Upcoming advice on science and democracy

4 September 2026
The European Group on Ethics in Science and New Technologies (EGE) will examine how principles such as transparency, accountability, equity and proportionality should be put into practice in areas such as research, the media and public policymaking.

It will also propose criteria and standards that should guide the assessment of evidence that inform policy under conditions of time pressure and scientific uncertainty. Finally, it will assess to what extent policymakers can prevent threats to democratic integrity, without undermining civil liberties such as freedom of expression.
