Within the Ethics Advice Mechanism, the role of SAEGE is to support the European Group on Ethics with independent knowledge-gathering and ethical analysis on demand.
The full name of SAEGE is ‘Support for the Activities of the European Group on Ethics’.
SAEGE is a project funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme. The project is delivered by EUREC Office gUG, the European Network of Research Ethics Committees.

Policy advisors
Our policy advisors deliver the core work of SAEGE. In response to requests for support from the European Group on Ethics, they identify experts, conduct research, and write briefings on specific topics.
Our policy advisors also lead our work in horizon-scanning, network-building, and developing guidelines for the use of AI in ethics advice.
Research analysts
Our research analysts are experienced specialists who can provide high-level input into all research tasks. They work alongside the policy advisors across the core SAEGE activities and can also lead work on individual topics.
The research analysts also ensure that our ethics advice is inclusive and takes into account the needs of all relevant groups.
Communications and policy engagement staff
Our communications and policy engagement team is responsible for communicating about the work of the Ethics Advice Mechanism, working with staff in the EGE secretariat.
