The Ethics Advice Mechanism is supported by the EGE secretariat, established within the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation.
This secretariat:
- acts as a liaison between the European Group on Ethics, SAEGE, and the European Commission
- analyses the policy background to requests for advice
- supports the European Group on Ethics in their work
- works with SAEGE and the Group to communicate about the work of the Ethics Advice Mechanism
Within the European Commission, the secretariat also chairs and convenes the inter service group on ethics and EU policies, which coordinates Commission activities in the fields of ethics of science and new technologies.
